Community Police

Nepal Police, upholding the essence of public participation in the maintenance of law and order in the society and to control and investigate crimes, has brought forward the concept of Community Police. In this regard, Community Police and Community Services Centers have been established in various places throughout the country. It has been experienced that with the establishment of the Community Police, the cordial relationship between the police and the public subsequently helped a great deal in controlling crimes.

The importance of the Community Police has further increased given the present situation. To minimize crimes like women trafficking, drug abuse, gambling, prostitution and other social crimes that are deeply roots in the society various public awareness programs have been organized. Such programs include school liaison programs, door-to-door

programs, seminars, clean-up campaigns, meetings and interaction programs. These activities have helped develop awareness amongst the people and there has been a positive change in the traditional perception regarding the police.
          Realizing the need of Community Police, 179 Community Service Centers have been established in 72 districts till date. Establishment of such Community Service Centers in the remaining three districts is also in process. Besides, Community Service Cooperative Limited is being run and security volunteers have been mobilized with the aim of imparting a reliable security at the local level. Also, the door-to-door program has been made more effective and with these programs reaching out to 2,41,113 homes in this fiscal year.
