Nepal Police in International Peace Keeping Missions
The changes in the world order after the end of the Cold War, the formation
of new nations and also the vast changes in international politics have
brought along with them various difficulties and internal strife in many
countries which has consequently affected world peace. In this changing
world scenario, it is the primary responsibility of the United Nations to
maintain world peace, a task which is multi-faceted and fraught with extreme
challenges. Nepal Police has already participated in 15 different missions
from 2nd March 1992 till today to help the United Nations in maintaining
world peace. Guided by its pious motto - "Truth, Service and Security" - Nepal Police
has always been dedicated to achieving the country's main foreign policy of
maintaining world peace and order according to the declarations of the
United Nations. The skills, capabilities and professionalism demonstrated by
the Nepal Police personnel have helped it earn a high reputation in the
international community. For the purpose of maintaining international peace
and security there 177 police personnel active at present with 51 of them in
five various UN Peace Keeping Missions, one in DPKO, New York and 125 as the
Formed Police Unit in the MINUSTAH Missions in Haiti. Till date, 1277
personnel of Nepal Police have provided their excellent services to maintain
world peace in 14 different missions and also in the International Court of
Justice and the DPKO.
