Inspector General of Police Dr. Manoj Kumar K.C.

Dr. Manoj Kumar K.C. was born on 13 August 1975 in Bidur Municipality, Nuwakot District, to Mr. Ashok Kumar K.C. and Mrs. Shanti K.C. He is deeply committed family man with supportive wife and a son. His personal journey, shaped by family values, academic curiosity and a strong sense of public service, has been complemented by a distinguished professional career. 

 

Dr. K.C. possesses a diverse and distinguished academic background. Having completed his high school and undergraduate education in science, he subsequently pursued Master's degrees in the Social Sciences, Public Administration and Applied Conflict Transformation Studies. Further advancing his academic pursuit, on April 2020 he earned a Doctorate in Applied Conflict Transformation from Cambodia. 

 

On 4 November 2026, Dr. K.C. assumed the office as the 34th Inspector General of Police (IGP) of Nepal Police and the Head of National Central Bureau (NCB) Kathmandu, taking the helm of the national law enforcement institution. His appointment marks another significant milestone in a career spanning more than 28 years, characterized by extensive operational exposure, specialized investigation, academic accomplishment, and strategic leadership.

 

After completing his Inspector Basic Police Training at the National Police Academy in September 1999, Dr. K.C. embarked on a policing career that has taken him through a wide range of assignments. Throughout his service, he has held major leadership responsibilities as Chief of Crime Investigation Department, Central Investigation Bureau (CIB), Province Coordination Department, Director of National Police Academy, Head of Special Bureau, Head of Women, Children and Senior Citizen Service Directorate, Kathmandu Valley Crime Investigation Office, Deputy Director Research Planning & Development Directorate, Head of District Police Office Morang and Rupandehi, and the officer in charge of Metropolitan Police Circle Boudha. His repeated assignments at the Research, Planning and Development Directorate, National Police Academy and Detective Training School further reflect his sustained engagement in strengthening the institutional foundations of Nepal Police. 

 

His career reflects a balanced combination of field-level command, specialized crime investigation, intelligence-oriented policing and institution-building. Beyond national policing responsibilities, Dr. K.C. has represented Nepal Police in international peacekeeping operations under the United Nations. He served in the United Nations Interim Administration Mission in Kosovo (UNMIK) in 2003 and the United Nations Stabilization Mission in Haiti (MINUSTAH) in 2008. 

 

Throughout his professional journey, he has participated in numerous specialized national and international training program, continually expanding his professional knowledge and leadership capabilities. His training accomplishments include aviation security, peacekeeping, international conflict resolution, global terrorism, crime investigation, investigative interviewing, human rights, operational command, Master Training of Trainers, and Strategic Command and Management. These programs have strengthened his competencies in contemporary security challenges, investigative methodologies, operational leadership, professional training and strategic decision-making.

 

In recognition of his distinguished service and professional contributions, Dr. K.C. has received several prestigious national and international decorations, including the Birendra-Aishwarya Service Medal, United Nations Medals, the Fourth Order of Gorkha Dakshin Bahu and Prabal Janasewa Shree. His professional excellence has also been acknowledged through distinctions such as Best Investigation Officer and Best District Police Chief, alongside multiple appreciation certificates, cash awards and grade increments. 

 

Beyond his formal professional responsibilities, he is an avid reader, researcher and writer, with a keen interest in exploring contemporary policing issues, security dynamics, institutional development and the broader dimensions conflict resolutions. His passion for continuous learning and intellectual engagement complements his practical policing experience and academic accomplishments. This can be seen in his publications: “Enhancing Policing in Nepal: A Human Security Informed Approach, Concepts, and Implications (2023)” and “Identifying Effective Measures to Combat Organized Crime in Post-Conflict Kathmandu (2012)”. He is also a visiting lecturer at several universities and a research fellow who has led over a dozen research projects.
